Privacy Policy
Mr. White is a party game made by BELIKELY UNITED LLP ("we", "us"). Games with friends stay in the room: they run directly between your devices and never reach us. Playing with bots is different: the bots think and talk on our servers and on AI services, so those games use the internet. This policy explains what the app touches in each case, and why.
What stays on your device
- Your name and your settings (sound, haptics, music, bot voices).
- A rejoin token for the last room you were in, so you can get back in if your connection drops. It's cleared when you leave the room or the room closes.
- How many games you've finished and when the app last asked you for a rating, so it knows when an ad is due and asks for a rating only once.
- Your day streak and streak freezes, the last copy of your level, and any players you chose to hide from your leaderboards.
Games with friends
When you host or join a room, the app talks directly to the other devices on the same WiFi network or hotspot. It shares your name, whether you're ready, and your game actions (clues you type, votes, turns, Mr. White's guess) with the players in that room. Secret words go only to the players who are meant to see them. None of this goes through our servers; we never receive it.
Playing with bots
Bot games start only after you allow them. Before your first bot game (or before you buy credits) the app shows what goes to which AI service, and you choose: Allow, Allow, typing only, or Not now. You can take that permission back any time in Settings › Bot games › Allow AI bots. Once you allow them:
- An anonymous account. The app signs in invisibly with Firebase Authentication (Google). It's a random ID, with no email, password or phone number. Players who never use the bots never get one.
- The bots' moves. For each bot move, the app sends our server what that bot may know: the secret word it holds, the clues and table talk so far, vote reasons, and everyone at the table by first name. Our server asks Anthropic's Claude for the bot's clue, line or vote. Our server doesn't keep the game's clues or talk.
- Voices. The bots' lines are turned into speech by ElevenLabs. If you mute the voices while playing alone, no voices are made.
- Your voice, only if you use the mic. When you tap or hold the mic, a short clip of what you say is sent to ElevenLabs to be turned into text, which you can check before you send it. We don't keep the clip or the text on our servers; ElevenLabs may keep the audio as its privacy policy describes. If you chose typing only, the microphone is never used. If you're under 18, please choose typing only: ElevenLabs doesn't accept voice from people under 18.
- Reports. If you report a bot's line or a player's name, we keep the report (the line or name, the game and your account ID) to review it.
Anthropic and ElevenLabs process this data to provide their service to us, and each keeps it only as its own privacy policy describes. Nothing you say to the bots is used to advertise to you.
What our server keeps
For players who use the bots, we keep this in Google Cloud Firestore (Firebase), tied to the anonymous account:
- Credits: your balance, free credits and when they expire, records of your purchases (the store's transaction or order ID, the pack and the credits), and records of any credits we've given you. Payment details stay with Apple or Google; we never see them.
- A device key: a scrambled (hashed) form of your device's app identifier, so each device gets free credits only once, and your phone's region code, which sets the bots' accents and which free credits apply.
- Bot games: when each game was played, the table size, the bots' names, what the game cost us to run and how it ended, plus a daily game count used to stop abuse.
- Your progress: XP, level, the bots' skill for you, your game stats and this week's XP.
- Leaderboards and friends: the name you play under (or "Player" and a code, if you turn names off), your region, level and XP; your friend code; and your friends list.
Server logs
Like any online service, our servers and Firebase see your IP address and device type when the app connects for a bot game. We use them only for security and to fix problems, and our server logs are kept for up to 30 days.
Leaderboards
Leaderboards show other players your name, level and XP from bot games: among friends, in your region, and worldwide. To appear as "Player" and a code instead, turn off Show my name on leaderboards in Your progress. Names that are crude are shown as "Player" and a code automatically, and a name reported by three players is hidden. You can hide any player from your own boards.
Purchases
Credit packs are bought through the App Store or Google Play. The store sends our server proof of the purchase so we can add the credits, once. Credits you buy never expire; free credits last 14 days.
Crash reports
If the app crashes, it sends a crash report through Firebase Crashlytics, a service from Google. A report contains technical details about the crash (the code that failed, device model, operating system and app version) and a random installation identifier. It doesn't contain your name or your games. We use crash reports only to find and fix bugs. Crashlytics keeps them for up to 90 days. Google's handling is described in the Firebase privacy information.
Ads
On iPhone, iPad and Android, Mr. White shows a full-screen ad between some games: from your third finished game, every other game. Never during a game, never on the device hosting the room, never on Mac, and never while you have bought credits. Ads come from Google AdMob and are limited to content suitable for all ages. If you see an inappropriate ad, tell us in Settings › Report an ad.
To choose, show and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google's ads software collects your IP address (which gives an approximate location), information about your device and the app, and how you interact with ads. On Android this can include your device's advertising ID, which you can reset or delete in your phone's settings. On iPhone and iPad the app never asks for permission to track you, so Google doesn't receive your device's advertising identifier.
In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Google's consent form asks for your choice before ads are personalised, and you can change it at any time in Settings › Privacy choices. Google explains its handling in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Usage statistics
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to see how the app is used: when it's opened and for how long, the device model, operating system, app version and country, plus two events of our own, when the app asks for a rating and when an ad is shown. It uses a random app-instance identifier, never your name or your games. Google's handling is described in the Firebase privacy information.
App Store waitlist
On our website you can leave your email to hear when Mr. White is on the App Store. We keep that address, and when and on which page you left it, in Google Cloud Firestore. We use it only to send you that one email, and we delete the list once it's sent. To come off the list sooner, email us.
Permissions
- Local Network (iPhone, iPad and Mac): to find rooms and connect to other players on your WiFi.
- Microphone (optional): only to talk to the bots, and only when you tap or hold the mic.
- Network access (Android): rooms, bot games, crash reports, usage statistics and ads.
- Advertising ID (Android): used by Google's ads software, as described under Ads.
Security and where data is kept
Data between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. Our servers run on Google Cloud, and Google, Anthropic and ElevenLabs may process data in the United States and other countries, with the safeguards their terms describe.
How long we keep it
Your bot-game data stays while you use it. Delete it any time (below), and it's gone, except purchase records, which we keep as long as tax and accounting law requires, and reports, which we keep while we review them. Records of a device having had its free credits stay, without any link to you, so free credits can't be claimed twice.
Your choices
- Delete your bot-game data: Settings › Bot games › Delete my data deletes your account, credits (bought ones too), progress, leaderboard spot, friend code and friends, and game records, straight away. Can't use the app? See how to delete your data.
- AI bots: turn off Allow AI bots in Settings to stop sending anything to the AI services; bot games ask again before the next one.
- Leaderboards: turn off Show my name on leaderboards, or hide players.
- Microphone: choose Type instead, or turn off the microphone for Mr. White in your device's settings.
- Ads: where Google's consent form applies, change your choice in Settings › Privacy choices; on Android, reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings.
- Everything on the device: deleting the app removes what it stored on your device.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or port your data, or to object to how we use it. Email us and we'll help.
Children
Mr. White is a party game for groups and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has played bot games, email us and we'll delete their data.
What we don't do
- No sign-up: bot games use an anonymous account, with no email or password.
- No ads during a game, and no request to track you across other companies' apps and websites.
- We don't sell or rent data, and we don't share it except as described above.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the effective date above.
